More About First Lieutenant Merrill

First Lieutenant Merrill was acting as a flight commander when he disappeared during a fight with a “Taube” on Oct. 4, 1918. He was a patrol leader of a squadron flying SPAD VIII planes. Though his death has never been officially confirmed, a detail of field hospital workers reported that his body was found in No Man’s Land. It was reported that his body was found and identified by advancing ground troops. He is buried in the Argonne American Cemetery Romagne-sous-Montfaucon (Meuse) France.
