More About Second Lieutenant Bloecher

After completing the middle course at the College of Agriculture, Lieutenant Bloecher went on to teach agriculture at Peshtigo High School for one year. He was later employed by the University of Wisconsin to do experimental work, but resigned the position to enter the Second Officer’s Training Camp at Fort Sheridan.

Once he received his commission, he was ordered overseas and sailed in January, 1918. After arriving in France he was assigned to the infantry school at Châtillon-sur-Seine and would later be assigned to the 18th Infantry upon completion of the course.

Lieutenant Bloecher was killed in the American drive at Soisson by a bursting shell. A few hours before his death he had taken command of his company following the death of the former commanding officer earlier that day.
