More About Lieutenant Junior Grade Jacobson

Lieutenant Junior Grade Jacobson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was shot down and killed over New Guinea. He flew with Navy Torpedo Squadron Twenty-One (VT-21) from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. He, his radioman and his gunner were KIA July 17, 1943, over southern Bougainville, Papua New Guinea while bombing Japanese shipping off Kahili. His remains were not recovered until the year 2000 and after which he was reburied at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota. He is memorialized on the Wall of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in Manila, Philippines.
