More About Second Lieutenant Dillon

After graduating from the university, Second Lieutenant Dillon farmed with his father. He then applied for and was admitted to the Second Officers’ Training Camp. He sailed overseas on 15 January 1918 and upon arriving in France attended an infantry specialists’ school where he was assigned to the 26th Infantry, Company D. He stayed and served with this company for the Battle of Soissons and the Battle of Saint-Mihiel.He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry and valor in action.

After being given command of Company C, he led a charge at the beginning of the Battle of the Argonne Forest where he was killed.
