Philip Frederick Deno enlisted into the US Army Air Forces on March 16, 1942, at Oxnard, Calif. He completed his introductory army training at the Santa Ana Center of the West Coast Air Corps Training Detachment and, from there, was sent to Mira Loma Flight Academy in July 1942. He was later sent to Roswell Army Airfield for further training as an Aviation Cadet. On Jan. 25, 1943, while flying in a B-25D bomber on a flight from Roswell to Saint Louis when the plane collided with a mountain about 40 miles northeast of Medford, Texas. All six servicemen onboard were killed.
